My experience in research project management ensures a thorough investigation of the material for our projects. I'm also largely responsible for the final appearance and clarity of our written reports
Following a PhD in molecular endocrinology at Cambridge University, I spent 2 years in research administration for the Medical Research Council, managing a Centre with an annual budget of £1.2M. I left in 1992 to join the University of Cambridge’s Department of Public Health & Primary Care. Here, as Research Associate & then Senior Research Associate, for 12 years I ran epidemiological projects investigating the performance & effectiveness of the national breast screening programme, & modelled the impact of detecting & treating carcinoma in situ. During this time, I co-wrote over 20 articles published in scientific journals, two book chapters, & 5 successful grant applications. I also contributed information & expertise for national programme evaluation via national policy-making committees. In 2001, I undertook a review of services for patients with gastrointestinal cancers in the Eastern Region, for the NHS.
In 2002, whilst continuing my epidemiological research, I underwent training in the University’s Staff Development department, before assuming responsibility for designing, coordinating, & delivering bespoke training courses for Cambridge Graduate Teaching Assistants. Working freelance, for 3 years I also provided workshops on undergraduate admissions interview techniques for College Admissions Tutors at Oxford & Cambridge Universities. Since 2005 I have been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy – a professional body concerned with ensuring the quality of adult teaching & learning.
My role within TJM Consultancy is principally in the research for, and production of, reports and plans, and I also prepare training material for courses. I undertake much of the research from secondary sources for our market reports and analyses, ensuring that we cover as broad a sweep as possible in initial investigations, before targeting specific information required for each project. I'm also largely responsible for the final appearance and clarity of our written reports, making sure that they are accessible to both scientists and non-scientists. My background in training and staff development allows us to tailor our training programmes such that each individual's performance in maximised and clients' requirements are met in full.
